Atlas Collectible Firearms is profoundly honored to present a museum-tier masterpiece of pre-war American lever-action history: a Nick Kusmit Master Engraved 1924 Winchester Model 53 Takedown rifle chambered in .32 WCF (.32-20 Winchester Center Fire). This exceptional specimen is a documented first-year production firearm bearing the ultra-low serial number 580. The rifle features a 22-inch tapered round takedown barrel with a half-length magazine, a ramp-mounted blade front sight, and a Marbles elevator-adjustable rear sight.
This rifle has been treated to breathtaking early master-level hand engraving by the legendary Nick Kusmit. The receiver displays extensive vine-type foliate scroll with punch-dot backgrounds and unique heart-shaped shaded borders. The artistry includes a circular game scene on the right featuring a fox and a charging wild boar scene on the left, where Kusmit’s "NK" signature is expertly hidden. Matching scrollwork extends to the upper and lower action, the breech end of the barrel, the lever, and even the grooved steel buttplate.
The firearm is fitted with a rare, special ordered high-grade factory fancy black walnut stock set featuring a pistol grip with a hard rubber cap and a scarce special order shotgun-style butt. The furniture is beautifully appointed with Style H checkering and Winchester sling eyes, with the stock channel correctly bearing the pencil marking "QB M53". The metal retains over 95% of a professional reblued finish, while the refinished wood shows honest marks consistent with its century of existence. With sound mechanics and a generally bright bore featuring strong rifling, this represents a premier opportunity to acquire a signed Kusmit masterwork from the very first year of Model 53 production.
